Residential & commercial
pavers and boulders

Pavers and boulders carry a lot of advantages in landscaping or hardscaping. While business 101 might claim you can’t have a product that’s cheap, high-quality, and aesthetically pleasing at the same time, pavers and boulders break this rule by meeting all three.

For over a decade, Dobis Landscaping has been providing the highest quality lawn care, landscaping, fertilizing and pest control services to our customers in the Great Lakes Bay Region.

Why pavers?

Pavers are popular with designers and homeowners alike because they’re affordable, versatile, and durable.

Paver categories
Pavers fall into four main categories.

  • Interlocking
  • Precast unit
  • Open cell
  • Stone
Interlocking – Come in many shapes and colors that produce interlocking patterns.
Precast unit – Shapes that are relatively uniform, such as squares or rectangles. Comes in a variety of sizes. Precast pavers can be made with
sand or gravel bases don’t even need to use mortar.
Open cell – Designed so water drains through openings in the paver or through openings constructed on the edges of the paver.
Stone – Square stones that replaced cobblestones, stone pavers are made of fragments from pre-war pavements. Similar look to precast concrete pavers, but more expensive because of labor cost to create stones roughly the same size.

Pavers can be used in various hardscaping projects:

· Driveways
· Firepits
· Outdoor fireplaces
· Outdoor kitchens
· Patios
· Pool decks
· Retaining walls
· Sidewalk
· Sitting walls
· Steps
· Walkways
· And more!

What is a boulder?
Boulders are large rocks!

Why boulders?
Boulders are great for adding beauty to gardens, preventing soil erosion, creating durable driveways, and constructing appealing patios.

The garden
Boulders can be strategically placed in a garden to add balance to its aesthetics.

Boulder shapes come in:

  • Tall vertical
  • Low vertical
  • Arching
  • Reclining
  • Flat

Tall vertical – A stone taller than it is wide.
Low vertical – A stone wider than it is tall.
Arching – Ideal for a corner of a stone bridge. Provides stability.
Reclining – A boulder loosely resembling a diagonal line.
Flat – Have a flat top surface. Great for stepping stones.
Boulder walls and retaining walls

Boulders provide beauty, but they’re also effective at erosion control. There are many reasons to use boulder walls:

  • Slope reduction
  • Supportive structures
  • Erosion control
  • Stabilizes slopes
Pavers are ideal for Michigan because, unlike asphalt or solid concrete driveways, paver driveways can withhold freezing and thawing without cracking or splitting.
Whether you’re after a pastoral or modern look, boulders are also great for patios too!
